Are All Flip Flops Created Equal?
Today Kerry said he would have supported the war in Iraq, even if he had known that there would not have been any discoveries of Weapons of Mass Destruction. On Hannity and Colmes, Colmes advanced the argument that this flip flop of Kerry was not that big of deal - because Bush et. al. flip flop on quite a few domestic issues. I fully agree with the latter part of Colmes argument - Bush et. al. flip flop. However, I have to disagree with the second part - that its isn't a big deal. There is a difference between flip flops on domestic issues and issues of national security. A flip flop on an issue of National Security makes our nation look weak and indecisive in front of the entire world - an appearance that can cost American lives. Do I like Bush's flip flops which I believe are caused not by new information but by a changing political calculus? Hell no! But that doesn't mean that all flip flops by a potential commander in chief are created equal.
